The younger generation is typically seen as apathetic when it comes to voting. I used to think so too, that's why I make it a point to vote. I don't know if anyone has actually gone to the polls lately, but I think I've discovered the reason why the kids are so hesitant to be a part of American democracy...the poll workers. The government has seriously found a way to bring together a group of the most random people, people who would otherwise never associate with each other, to guide us in the actual voting process. I don't know where my poll workers came from, but I certainly have not seen them at the local coffee shop.
When I first got to the polls, I was checked in by a young Asian girl who could not have been older than 12. (Although based on the anime sweatshirt she was rocking, maybe 16.) After that old man with trucker hat, and arm tattoos that went on for days handed me my ballot. At which point overweight, middle-aged lady with rose colored glasses and shifty eyes pointed me to an empty booth. Can you imagine what they must have talked about on their lunch break?
ACTUALLY, the reason why the youth are so apathetic is because poll workers are not consistent with handing out those "I Voted" stickers. You have no idea how frustrating it is to read up on issues, get bombarded with election propaganda in the mail, actually go to the polls...and then come out empty handed. The sticker is the best part! I weep for the youth.
