Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got.

The new internship has allowed me the opportunity to visit different parts of NYC. While glamorous in May, the increasingly hot days in June have made the adventures slightly more torturous. But this entry will refrain from making commentary about the weather...let's just say it's humid, hot and I'm definitely a sweater (not the garment). The past few weeks I've been going to different schools throughout the various boroughs. Sadly never in Manhattan, primarily in Queens and the Bronx. Queens always reminds me of that awesome Eddie Murphy movie, "Coming to America," which oddly enough my mother is always down to watch. The Bronx of course reminds me of J.Lo and her "On the 6" album. Even more exciting, I actually took the 6 to get to the Bronx, sadly it did not look much like J.Lo's music videos.

I prefer visiting elementary and middle schools because the security guards are less likely to assume I'm a tardy student. Despite my age-appropriate clothing and business decorum there is always disbelief until I flash valid identification. I'm not sure how one gets the job of school security guard, maybe they just take all the cadets who are really good at sitting around and filling out log books.

After security I'm sent to the office where I'm forced to converse with the admin. folks. You'd think after 10+ years, I'd be over it, but I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from when I was in school. Most vividly I remember getting a splinter in my finger due to falling in the tan bark (WTF where they thinking in the 80's letting children play around in shards of wood?!? ) and going to the office to seek medical attention. I guess I had hoped for some semblance of a nurturing professional, but instead was handed a band-aid and asked to leave. The little splinter dug into my finger all day, I was so very sad.

Okay enough reminiscing. School office people are still the worst. The end.
